Whilst wandering about the Internet I found a website which lists all the various locations used in the filming of Dr Who (in case you didn’t realise, this is going to be a geeky post – feel free to bail out now if you want to). Anyway, a lot of the filming takes place in Wales on account of the programme being produced by BBC Wales, and, this being the land of half my forefathers, I was interested to find places I might know.

And I did. One of them I knew very well. St Mary’s Church, Marshfield. You see, my Grandfather was a Vicar and St Mary’s was the last place he worked before he retired. In fact he and my Grandmother are buried in the churchyard there, not far from the lychgate.

The site was used for the filming of Donna’s wedding in The End of Time. I’m not sure why I didn’t recognise it whilst watching the episode originally but then again that episode is an emotional ringer so I was probably too involved in the story to admire the scenery.

Still now I know, it’s cool to think that one of my favourite shows filmed somewhere I know so well from my childhood. And ups by geek kudos a bit too.
