It’s fair to say it’s been up and down this year when it comes to my blog. It started pretty well. I’d changed my posting schedule to every two weeks in 2022 and kept up with that until March. Then my posting schedule fell off a cliff. There was nothing specific that stopped it, but I felt under a cloud not just with the blog. Like many, I think the state of the world had paralyzed my creative muscles –  although I realise that I’m lucky that’s the worst of it. I came off Twitter (or X) permanently for the sake of my sanity, which I think helped. I also recently transferred to a self-hosted site to give me more freedom on what I can do with the site – which wasn’t all plain sailing but I won’t go into that.

My other writing also took a hit. My trilogy is on hiatus and I’ve pivoted to write a new book of short stories to go alongside “Tales from the Creeping Edges”, this time with a focus on sci-fi/speculative fiction. I’ve always liked short stories. And when struggling with the time and heart to write, smaller-sized tales have been easier to cope with.

So now it’s 2024 and change is coming. The biggest change for me personally is that I’m leaving my place of work. I’ve been there almost twenty years, full-time so it’s a big change, although I’m not going under a cloud. I’m fortunate because I’m able to take some time off “working” (as in being paid to) to focus on personal creative projects, of which this blog will be one. Right now, this barely feels real. I have so much I want to – but equally, I need to be careful I don’t put too much pressure on myself. I do also want to try and de-stress!

So that’s me this year – how about you? What are you planning? Feel free to share in the comments.
