One of the earliest posts I did was ab0ut my five favourite books.  The list varies depending on my mood but one that’s always there is Microserfs by Douglas Coupland.  I call it my comfort book.  I read it when I’m down or ill.  Not all of it, sometimes just a chapter or two where I check in with my friends and remind myself of their story.  Consequently unlike my rather pristine copies of Alice, Microserfs now looks like this:

No back page, no front page and a worn down spine. Pages are threatening to fall off every time I look at them.  But still, I keep it.  I have considered getting a new one, except if I did, it would have to be the same version the odd square version with a yellow lego-esque cover (you’ll have to take my word for that). Which sounds daft because the words don’t change depending on the cover.  I guess that’s one of the curious things about books – they are more than just the words inside.

How about you? Got a favourite book on the verge of collapse?
