One of my new year’s aims was to get more art up in my home. Of course, there was a high likelihood said art would be related to books ‘n’ stuff and so it is with this new piece.

I bought this a while back but I’ve only just got round to getting a frame for it! Discworld fans will know where this is, but if you’re not familiar with Terry Pratchett’s magical world let me introduce you to the Unseen University Library. The Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork has seen some fine wizarding alumni (and Rincewind who’s rubbish at magic but good at running). The library contains a vast number of magical tomes (some tied down for safety). So many in fact that the weight of words and knowledge has warped time and space – so be careful where you tread.

If you do need a book, your best bet is to ask the Librarian. Bring a banana and he’s likely to be amenable to your request – because he’s an orangutan.

At one point the Librarian was human after being caught up in an errant magical field he was changed into his current form. And he has studiously resisted all efforts to be turned back. Life is much simpler when you’re an ape. A word of caution though, don’t call him a m*nkey unless you’ve no further use for your arms.

My favourite thing about this picture is that there’s so much to see. All the little details mean there’s always something new that catches your eye every time you look at it. There are also a couple of nice little tributes to the late great man himself, Sir Terry Pratchett.

Lastly a shout out to the Discworld Emporium where I purchased this beauty (not sponsored btw). They have a shop I’ve been unable to visit (yet) but are fully up to date with the “Grate Modurn Wunders of the Worlde” so also sell their products online. I received this so quickly it might have been dropped off by Postmaster Moist Von Lipwig himself. Everything is perfect, from the stamps on the packaging to the Thieves Guild note left inside.

What do you think? Do you have a piece of literary art you love? Let me know in the comments!
